Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Celeste (Light Blue), issuing from dexter chief, a lightning flash throughout bendwise Sable fimbriated Buff, surmounted with a key ward down, bendwise sinister of the last, overall a cutlass throughout point up, blade Or, hilt Sable fimbriated and detailed of the third. Attached below the shield a black motto scroll inscribed "FUEL FOR THE FIRE" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Buff and light blue are the colors traditionally used by the Quartermaster units. The lightning flash represents speed and power, delivered by the unit. Black signifies the petroleum (fuel), supplied by the battalion. The key symbolizes the battalion's mission of command, control and operational services, to assigned and/or attached Petroleum supply companies. The sword denotes the battalion's military readiness and strength.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 746th Quartermaster Battalion on 30 December 2003. It was redesignated effective 1 September 2007, for the 746th Support Battalion.
